Tapes
Endless strips, cut from film to a certain width and drawn. Application: woven fabric for carpet backing and for FIBC (Flexible Intermediate Bulk Container = big bags).

Tensile curve
Graph of stress as a function of elongation.
Curve showing changes in the stress needed to pull both ends of a plastic specimen in opposite directions at a constant velocity (- rate of elongation). A tensile curve is also called
|
Tensile strength
Highest stress in a tensile curve, often the stress at break.
Strength at break is the rupture strength per unit area of a material subjected to a specified dynamic load. A material is stronger when it has a higher tensile strength.

Transparency
A film is transparant if an object can be clearly seen through it.
Transparency can be improved by a lower density, a lower crystallinity and a higher MFI. It is measured by determining the amount of light which is passing a film specimen and is scattered at angles between 0.5°-1.7°. This measurement is only meaningful for films with low haze values.
